Can I Get A Cancel Anytime Cancel For Any Reason Plan?

by Steve Dasseos on October 17, 2011

We didn’t purchase our tickets yet. My wife and I, along with our 10 month old, hope to go from Newark to Israel (Tel Aviv) in early December for 5-6 days. The tickets are about $1,000 each. We live in New York. We need a policy that in the event my wife feels at the last moment she cannot go we can get all our money back. Will the “cancel for any reason” insurance cover us? Avi

Hi Avi,

There aren’t any travel insurance plans with the “cancel for any reason” option that let you cancel less than 24 hours before you are scheduled to leave on your trip.

You have two other choices:

1) The airline offers you the option of cancelling your flights and paying the change fee to the airline to re-use your tickets. You don’t lose the value of the ticket.

2) You can buy fully refundable plane tickets. They cost more, but they are completely flexible.

Choice # 1 doesn’t give you your money back, and Choice # 2 is only more expensive if you take your trip.

I hope this makes sense. If you want the right travel insurance advice, call us at 1-888-407-3854 and we'll help you figure it all out.
