Is It Worth Insuring a Timeshare Stay?

by Steve Dasseos on September 9, 2010

Since I am exchanging my timeshare for this trip, I have included my assessment (plus the exchange fees) in the total trip cost. However, if assessments cannot be used as part of my expenses, the total is only $497.37. The exchange fees were $348. Btw, I am driving to the resort and I don’t need medical coverage. What dollar amount do I insure?

It’s not worth insuring your timeshare stay because neither the assessments nor the exchange fees are insurable as trip costs.

In addition, since you don’t need medical coverage, that’s another reason not to get trip insurance for this trip.

And, in case you need one more reason not to get trip insurance for this trip, here it is: you are driving and it’s nearly impossible to have a successful travel delay claim when you are not using a common carrier for your transportation to and from your destination.

For your future trips, keep in mind that you can insure the airfare you paid to get to your destination.
