If you do not go to a doctor, the insurance company will not believe you were sick or injured.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"1943\">If you don\u2019t, your claim is very likely to be denied.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"1943\">Most policies say something like:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"1943\">\u201cFor Trip Cancellation benefits, an actual examination by a licensed Physician must take place before the cancellation is made. For Trip Interruption benefits, this examination must take place during Your Trip.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t a technicality\u2014it\u2019s the foundation of whether your claim gets paid.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<hr width=\"30%\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<h3><strong>Real Calls I\u2019ve Received<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h4 data-section-id=\"ymlbdp\" data-start=\"2313\" data-end=\"2377\">Case #1: \u201cWe came home early\u2026 but didn\u2019t see a doctor there\u201d<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"2379\" data-end=\"2430\">A client called after returning early from Ireland<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;My husband hurt his back badly, so we came home early. We saw a doctor once we got back, and he said it was a good decision. What do we need to do for the claim?&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I asked one key question:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cDid he see a doctor while you were still in Ireland?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The answer was no.<\/p>\n<p>They chose to finish their planned activities first, then fly home early, and only saw a doctor after returning.<\/p>\n<p>I explained:<\/p>\n<p>You absolutely have the right to file a claim, but without a doctor visit <strong>during the trip<\/strong>, it\u2019s very unlikely the claim will be paid.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<hr width=\"30%\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<h4 data-section-id=\"21qtnt\" data-start=\"2977\" data-end=\"3016\">Case #2: \u201cI could\u2019ve gone\u2026\u201d<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"3018\" data-end=\"3051\">Another long-time client told me:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I got sick in Spain before our cruise. I stayed in the hotel, took care of myself, and we flew to meet the ship a few days later. I could&#8217;ve gone to the doctor, but I figured a doctor would just tell me to do what I was already doing.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He was right about one thing\u2014he did know he could\u2019ve gone.<\/p>\n<p>But because he didn\u2019t see a doctor in Spain, his $3,300 claim was at serious risk.<\/p>\n<p>His response:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I need you to convince the insurance company to pay this.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Unfortunately, this isn\u2019t something anyone can \u201cconvince\u201d a company to overlook.<br \/>\nThe requirement is written into the policy.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<hr width=\"30%\" \/>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Case #3: The One I Never Forget<\/h4>\n<p>This one goes back to 2009.<\/p>\n<p>A woman called about a Trip Interruption claim after falling on ice in Iceland and breaking her wrist.<\/p>\n<p>I asked if she saw a doctor.<\/p>\n<p>She said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Yes. Do you think I\u2019m stupid?
