I received this call yesterday August 25, 2011:<\/p>\n

Caller: I need travel insurance that will help me if there’s bad weather. Especially if the place we’re going is damaged.
\nSteve: Where are you going?
\nCaller: The Outer Banks of North Carolina.
\nSteve: When are you going?
\nCaller: I’m driving there on August 30th for a three week trip.
\nSteve: Is anything forecasted?
\nCaller: Not as far as I know.
\nSteve: I’m looking NOAA’s website and nothing will cover you due to Hurricane Irene.
\nCaller: It’s not forecasted to hit North Carolina, but I really want coverage in case the Outer Banks are affected.
\nSteve: I’m sorry, but none of our plans will cover you.
\nCaller: I called ______.com and they said I could buy a policy.
\nSteve: You can always buy a policy, but it doesn’t mean your claim will be paid.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Look at what I found on the National Hurricane Center’s website:<\/p>\n

I also discovered that there’s something called “Tropical Depression TEN” that could be an issue. I advised him to not waste his money on travel insurance since nothing forecast is covered.<\/p>\n

That’s not the answer he wanted. He reasoned with me for 20 minutes, but the answer was still the same. He eventually said he was taking his business to ______.com because they are happy to take his money. However, as I say on TripInsuranceStore.com<\/a>:<\/p>\n

This is important<\/strong> – While anyone will sell you travel insurance at the last minute, claims under bad weather coverage from known events are not covered. If you’re traveling soon and bad weather is forecast or known, you will not be covered for bad weather if you’re getting your travel insurance today. That’s because the bad weather isn’t an unforeseen event.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
