Is it Safe to Get AIG Travel Guard Travel Insurance?

by Steve Dasseos on September 18, 2008

Hi Steve, My husband and I have ordered our travel insurance from you again, This makes four years in a row. We are insured with AIG Travel Guard. We have seen AIG and its financial difficulties in the news over the past weeks. Is our coverage void? Margaret G.

Hi Margaret,

Thanks for writing. You are right – AIG has been in the news lately. And, no, your coverage is not void. It is in place and will cover you as you expect with no surprises.

First, I have no trouble recommending AIG Travel Guard. I used to be a Registered Representative and Certified Financial planner with Series 6, Series 7 and Series 22 securities licenses. My last broker-dealer was SunAmerica Securities which is owned by AIG. Nothing from my past experience tells me to be worried about the safety of AIG Travel Guard.

Next, insurance companies are regulated by the each States’ insurance departments where they do business. This includes the requirement to have substantial financial reserves set aside to pay future claims. AIG Travel Guard is in an excellent financial position.

Finally, I only offer travel insurance plans from a select few pre-screened and hand-picked travel insurance companies of which AIG Travel Guard is one.

I hope this helped you. If you want the right travel insurance advice, call me at 1-888-407-3854 and I’ll help you figure it all out.
