Trip Insurance Won’t Help Brenda’s Husband

by Steve Dasseos on September 18, 2009

We are considering a Euro River Cruise in June of 2010. The sailing we are interested has limited availability so we need to make a non-refundable deposit ASAP; however, due to family issues my husband is not sure he will be able to go…..can he purchase insurance only for the non-refundable/non transferable deposit as long as he does so before the final payment date? Thank You, Brenda

Hi Brenda,

If your husband is thinking he may his mind and not want to go at least 2 days before your departure date, he needs a “Cancel For Any Reason / Change Your Mind” plan.

Unfortunately, your husband cannot just insure his out of pocket cost (the non-refundable deposit) because one of the rules is to insure 100% of your expected prepaid trip cost that would exist at your departure date.

He will have to insure 100% of his expected prepaid trip cost when he buys the policy. There’s just no way to get around this rule. If it turns out his final trip cost is higher or lower by the time he pays everything, he can adjust his coverage limits.
