Travel Insurance Won’t Help Robert

by Steve Dasseos on August 24, 2009

Steve, I want travel insurance, but I don’t want to pay for all the coverages. Here’s what I want:

  • Trip Cancellation & Interruption coverage, but no medical
  • Coverage for all variations of missed flights for any reason
  • Full coverage for my $2300 laptop that I’ll buy on my trip

Thanks in advance, Robert

Hi Robert,

In a nutshell, you cannot get a travel insurance plan to cover what you want.

You can stop looking for a Trip Cancellation / Interruption travel insurance plan without medical. All Trip Cancellation / Interruption plans are package plans. And, you can not pick and choose the coverages. I cover this more on this page:

Next, no travel insurance plan will cover you for all variations of missed flights for any reason. The most common reasons to be covered for missed connection are if the cause of a delay is an automobile accident or bad weather that delays you at least 3 hours.

Finally, travel insurance won’t cover the entire value of your laptop. Most plans cover a maximum or $400 or $500 for a single item.

Therefore, in good faith, I cannot recommend you buy a travel insurance plan.

I hope this makes sense. If you want the right travel insurance advice, call us at 1-888-407-3854 and we'll help you figure it all out.
