Does Travel Insurance Cover Giving Birth?

by Steve Dasseos on October 20, 2009

Hi Steve, Which travel health insurance plan will cover me? I am 30 weeks pregnant and I just bought my plane tickets for a trip to the USA. I plan on having my child in the USA and I want to get travel health insurance to cover all my expenses. Thanks, Rudeen Du P.

Before I answer this, what do you think? Do you think that if there was a plan available to Rudeen, it would be ethical to sell it to her since her sole purpose for her trip is to have her baby in the USA?

Thankfully, it’s not a moral decision I have to make since there are no travel insurance plans will cover her pregnancy and baby’s birth.

Here’s what I wrote Rudeen:

“I’m sorry, but there are no travel insurance plans will cover your medical expenses for anything associated with or in conjunction with your pregnancy and child’s birth.

I hope this makes sense. If you want the right travel insurance advice, call us at 1-888-407-3854 and we'll help you figure it all out.
